9th: Progress

Our project has just increased in size - one more participant, W-3.
Further details presumed to be coming.

See the Project Diary for the overall DNA Project Portal Site for details of the test discounts available until the end of this month (Dec 2009).
It's a good time to jump in if you've hit that brick wall and want to see how genetic genealogy can break that wall down.

5th: Results now include our 2nd participant

Check out the Results Pages for the W-2's results.
Two participants, two haplogroups.
Pedigree of W-2 as yet unknown.

Now would be a good time to join the project if you've been considering testing out how good the paper trail on your family tree is. Family Tree DNA is offering good discounts until the end of July.
Simply follow the Join Project link to read a bit more and order a test in the WIGHT project (includes instructions on how to transfer from the National Geographic Genographic Project (NGGP) as well).

Updated the Supplementary pages on the DNA Projects Portal with the abbreviated descendants chart for John and Janet (BUCKHOLM) WIGHT of Gilliestongue, Jedburgh.

2nd: More Wanted! Updates

The Patriarchs Page has been updated to include another WIGHT lineage requiring a participant, that of James WIGHT and Barbara NEIL, married Longformacus in 1727.

David would love to hear from you if you are a male WIGHT descendant from this line and willing to join the project to see what can be learned about this lineage.

2nd: Wanted! updates

The family of James and Jennat (SWORD) WIGHT of Bowden and Maxton, Roxburghshire, or at least a DNA oriented chart of potential candidate lines, has been added to the Wanted! page.
At least one representative from this line would be welcome, two from separate lines would be even better.

First project member

A WIGHT who had previously tested with the National Geographic Genographic Project has joined as our first participant.
Read these instructions on how to switch your sample and results across to Family Tree DNA.

The above link also has instructions for any other WIGHTs who have already been tested and want to become part of the project instead of going it alone.

If thinking about being tested, there are substantial discounts on new tests if you join a project for your order, rather than order direct from Family Tree DNA (the company this project uses), again, check the instructions link above.

The Results and Patriarchs pages have been updated to show our first participant, as has the DNA Projects Portal supplementary pages, where you can find some data on the lineage represented (that of Thomas WIGHT of Massachusetts).
Another representative for the family would be welcome, as would any WIGHT who wishes to test how they may match other families.

31st: We're up and running

All we need now are participants!

The WIGHT dna project has been approved by Family Tree DNA, so the join links etc should all be working now.

28th: Preliminary lineage info added

The beginnings of the WIGHT Lineages page have been added to the DNA Projects Portal.
Bear in mind that until the project is approved at Family Tree DNA the join and contribute links will not yet work.

27th: Request for surname project lodged

Having reviewed the existing projects available at Family Tree DNA, it was found that no WIGHT project exists, only WHITE, and WIGHTMAN, which are believed to be distinct families.

There are 6 WIGHTs who have already tested, who may join the project, which will hopefully be approved early next week.

In the meantime, some basic information is being created on the WorldFamlies Network WIGHT DNA pages.

Come and join in the fun of finding genetic connections between our respective WIGHT families.
